"Becoming a volunteer at the Cathedral Archer Project is amongst the most important and beneficial things I have ever done with my life. It changed the way I view my life and the direction I want my life to take.” - Archer Project Client
Our clients are chaotic and vulnerable. As part of the opportunities to help them move away from homelessness, we have developed a 2 year programme for them to work as volunteers to help run our project.
The programme is called the Partner Programme and was developed with the client group, using their experiences, expectations and knowledge. Clients may still be homeless when they start the programme, and through turning up regularly, taking on responsibilities and gaining trust, they start to take the steps to change their own circumstances. The programme includes a personal development plan, one-to-one support and an individually structured training programme giving clients employability and life skills to help them have a fulfilled life away from homelessness. The Partners take great pride in being accepted onto the programme and inspire and challenge their peer group to get involved.
50% of the volunteers at the Cathedral Archer Project are Partner Programme clients and make a huge contribution to the day-to-day running of the centre.
Partner Programme roles include all kitchen duties from washing up to preparing the daily meals, running the reception desk, stock control in the warehouse, cleaning, supporting clients with showers, laundry, change of clothes and other essential duties. The Partner Programme has been shared with other homeless and voluntary organisations nationally and has helped the Cathedral Archer Project gain the Investing in Volunteers Award from the NCVO.
