With under 3 weeks until the Cathedral Archer Project’s Sleep Out on the 5th September, things look to be shaping up for another successful event.
So far there's been a great response to the Sleep Out. Companies taking part include: Highlander, South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company, Capita, Sheffield Magistrates Courts, HLW Keeble Hawson, BDO LLP and Search Consultancy Ltd. Alongside these, a few intrepid individuals have also challenged themselves to a night sleeping rough on the Cathedral forecourt and all are hoping for a dry night!
The Sleep Out is going to be interesting for everyone that takes part, as well as a great way to raise money for the Cathedral Archer Project. The Project, which is a homeless day centre at Sheffield Cathedral, helps homeless adults achieve stable accommodation and lifestyles. As well as raising vital funds, the Sleep Out aims to raise awareness of the particular challenges faced by the homeless, with participants gaining a small insight into sleeping rough. Everyone taking part will also be given a tour of the Project to gain an understanding of the work it does for homeless adults in Sheffield.
The last Sleep Out in March raised over £9000 and those that took part commented on the insight it provided:
The Sleep Out was so memorable. It has given me a lot to think about.”
“It is the best way to get a glimpse of what it is like to be homeless, cold and tired and it really furthers your understanding of the difficulties this creates.”
“A rewarding and enriching experience.”
