The Rucksack Project

The weather is getting colder so a supporter has decided to run The Rucksack Project in Sheffield this winter.

This is your chance to be part of a worldwide movement born out of a simple idea to help those sleeping rough on the streets during the freezing winter months.

If you're not sure what The Rucksack Project is, it's simple. Fill a rucksack with essentials for helping someone stay warm this winter, and show up at the Archer Project on 31st October to hand it over.

Grab an old rucksack that you no longer need, or buy a new one, and fill it with items that would be useful to someone sleeping rough. You can use unwanted items you have at home, charity shop purchases or buy brand new.

The key things to include are:
• A rucksack
• A sleeping bag
• A wooly hat
• Gloves
• Scarf
• Underwear
• Socks
• A fleece
• A Thermos flask
• Tins of soup And Beans (ring pull)
• A spoon

Other popular items to add:
• Extra food - High carbohydrate foods are best
• Books
• Toothbrush and Toothpaste
• A basic First Aid kit (no medicines)
• Roll-up tobacco
• Pet food
• Bivi Bags (a special plastic bag to put the sleeping bag in)

It's obviously important not to include any sharp items in your packs. It's also unwise to include medicines such as Paracetamol as someone could be allergic to them. No alcohol or money.
