This is an odd time and we all know we need to support our NHS by staying at home. But staying at home for long periods of time is not that fun. So we've come up with some fun ways that you can help you keep active, have fun, possibly do something new, and support your favourite charity at the same time.
The 2.6 Challenge launches on the 26th April and runs until the end of the month and challenges you to get active. It is a national event organisd by the London Marathon and other mass sports participation event organisers to support UK Charities at a time when we are all struggling.
It can be any activity you like – from running 2.6 miles to holding an online workout with 26 of your friends. There are lots of different ideas so check out the 2.6 website for some inspiration.
Whatever your age or ability, you can take part. After all, we’re not looking for superheroes. We’re looking for Home Heroes.
You can donate to the campaign or set up your own fundraising campaign.
So lets get active, get fundraising and support homeless people through the 2.6 Challenge!
Our big event every year is our Sleep Out which is all about giving you, our supporters, the opportunity to experience in some way what sleeping rough can be like. But right now we can't sleep out. So we came up with the idea of the Sleep In.
On Friday 17th April a number of you slept in your kitchens, your living rooms and your gardens to support our work.
The Sleep In though is not confined to one night, you can do one whenever you like. Why not team up with your friends and each in your own houses sleep outside your bed? Just let us know if you want us to join you virtually and let you know how the money you raise will help us.
We're all working out how to be fit at home. So we've included some challenges below that you might want to do:
Do a 10K, half marathon, or if really ambitious a full marathon in your garden.
The 100 squats a day challenge
The 30 day plank challenge
And if you have children why not build them a mini assault course so they can work out with you too.
Take on the challenge of 25km or 50km on your stairs!
Every year Global Adventure Challenges run Trekfest in the Peaks. This year with the event cancelled they have created TrekFest at home, and want you to choose your distance and your charity and do at home on your stairs. There are some great top tips on how you can get started on their website.
Are you decluttering and finding time to sort everything out? Well Virgin Money Giving have teamed up with Ziffit.com so that you can sell your unwanted books, CDs, DVDs and games and donate the money to your favourite charity.
Even better Ziffit will pick up your donations so you don't have to leave your home.
But there are plenty of other ways you can support your favourite charity from head shaves, to a birthday fundraiser, from virtual quizzes to online coffee mornings.
For some advice on how to get started, JustGiving have provided some useful top tips for how to get started with Zoom and Houseparty.
We want you to share all your experiences with us and others, so we've made a Facebook Group. So head on over, get inspiration and share your ideas.
If you have any questions then please just get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org
Most importantly we want you to stay safe and stay at home, and then when this is over we can all meet up again and share those stories of our time inside.
